Way to Give Monks Offering in Bangkok?

I'm going to make merit by giving monk offering when I get to Bangkok. I'm probably going to give some toothbrushes and maybe some fruit and/or candy. I have been watching videos on Thailand and I saw one person giving the monk offering by getting on their knees and raising the offering above their head to give to the monk. Do I have to do it like this?
