Should I get acrylic nails?

I'm going to a government embly for 4 days at my state capitol and I want to look nice. We're all supposed to wear dress clothes and such. I'll be arguing a case in the Court of Appeals. I know a place that does acrylic nails for $30, which I think sounds like a good price. I'd be getting the short ones, but does this sound like a good time? Or would this be too tacky? Help!
