Think you can write an EARNEST little story that includes 6 of these Hemingway references?
(1) The Torrents of Spring were pouring down from the mountains swelling the rivers and making them dangerous for men, women, men with women, (3) men without women, and just about anybody who got near them. Nevertheless, I wanted to get (10) across the river into the trees to hunt, and decided to give it a try. At least Santiago in (9) The Old Man and the Sea had his little friend Manolin, but I had no one to help me. In the end I guess I should havethought about (8) For Whom the Bell Tolls when I heard the church bells ringing that day, because, in fact they tolled for me. So whether it was my love of hunting, the river, or just my stupidity that led to my (5) Death in the Afternoon, here I stand at the pearly gates (thank God for that at least) looking foolish in my hip high boots, my hunting cap, and my rifle. I hope that's not a metal detector I see up there. I have to go now, (4) the fifth column's turn to enter.
