If energy is conserved how can there be an energy crisis?

And the rest of the principle goes"it is just converted to one form to another". For humans we need need the energy in a concentrated and easily transported form to utilize. And our first choice is fossil fuels which are finite and are pollution. When we run out of theses easily usable fuels humanity will be hard pressed to adapt our current society hence the concept of energy crisis.
