How to treat a dry mouth?
The easiest and best fix for dry mouth that I have run across is simply to chew sugarless gum. Sucking on sugar free hard candy also works (be sure it is sugar free as this method is a common cause of cavities when candy with sugar is sucked). These work very well. It does sound like the source of the dry mouth is not dehydration as you have already figured out. Are you on a new medication? Some medications can cause dry mouth. Another cause of dry mouth is breathing through your mouth. Is your nose stuffed up and you are mouth breathing because of it? This can be helped by using a cool air humidifier near your bed. Also at night you could use Breath Right Strips to open up your nasal pages until the congestion clears. Saline nose spray also could help a lot with the congestion and can be bought inexpensively over the counter.. You need to breath through your nose because the nose serves as a natural means of humidifying the air you breath and the closed mouth keeps saliva from drying up. There are many medical conditions that can cause dry mouth and only your doctor could sort those out. I recommend you try the above fixes first and see a doctor only if the problem persists for several weeks. Coughing up yellow mucus following bronchitis can be normal and will take a while to clear up. If the mucous becomes larger amounts or you start running a fever you should see your doctor.
